A typing speed test measures how fast and accurately you type. This tool shows your gross WPM (raw speed), net WPM (speed after errors), total words, mistakes and accuracy percentage — updating live as you type.
What is a good typing speed?
- Below 25 WPM — beginner. Start with our learn typing course.
- 25–40 WPM — average; enough for most clerical and data-entry jobs.
- 40–60 WPM — good; comfortable for professional work.
- 60+ WPM — fast; strong for any typing-based role.
How WPM is calculated
One "word" is standardised as 5 keystrokes. Gross WPM = (total characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes. Net WPM subtracts your errors. This is the same method used by professional typing tests and most exams.
Improve your typing speed
Practise daily, keep your fingers on the home row, don't look at the keyboard, and prioritise accuracy over raw speed — accurate typing is faster overall because you waste less time correcting. Take a full test a few times a week to track progress.
