120 WPM Training

Objective: Understand 120 wpm training and apply it through accurate, readable practice before moving to the next lesson.

Estimated time: Practice plan

Understand the concept

120 WPM Training is a controlled speed stage. Use passages that match your present accuracy, then increase speed only after the notes remain readable and the transcript is dependable.

Speed comes from fewer hesitations, economical movement and automatic recall—not from pressing harder or writing larger. Track where hesitation occurs: vocabulary, joins, numbers, punctuation or concentration.

Use short bursts for overload practice and full-duration passages for stamina. Always finish with read-back or transcription so speed is measured together with usable accuracy.

2Apply correctlyUse the authorised form and preserve proportion.
3Read backConfirm that the result is immediately readable.
4Repeat in contextUse fresh words, sentences or timed material.

This conceptual chart does not replace the system-specific shorthand plate in your authorised English or Hindi textbook.

Worked learning examples

  1. Warm up for five minutes below target speed.
  2. Take a short passage at target speed and mark each hesitation after read-back.
  3. Repeat the same passage once, then use a fresh passage to test transfer.

Important rules

  • Increase speed in small, planned steps.
  • Count a session only when notes are read back or transcribed.
  • Stop if tension changes stroke shape or readability.

Common mistakes

  • Moving up after one successful passage
  • Practising only familiar passages
  • Ignoring unreadable outlines because the pen kept moving

Guided practice

  1. Read the lesson summary once without writing.
  2. Complete each worked example slowly and compare it with your approved reference.
  3. Read your practice aloud immediately after writing.
  4. Circle one hesitation or unclear form and correct it three times.

Independent practice

Work for 10–15 minutes without looking at the worked examples. Create one fresh practice line or short passage related to 120 WPM Training, then read it back and record the result in your notebook.
