Basic Word Signs
Objective: Understand basic word signs and apply it through accurate, readable practice before moving to the next lesson.
Understand the concept
Basic Word Signs reduces hesitation in high-frequency material. The purpose of an abbreviation or phrase is to save movement while remaining immediately readable.
Learn vocabulary in context rather than as isolated shapes. Say the full word or phrase, write the approved form, and use it in a short sentence or paragraph.
A brief form is useful only when recall is automatic and unambiguous. If you are uncertain during dictation, a clear longer outline is safer than an invented contraction.

Worked learning examples
- Create ten flashcards for basic word signs.
- Use five items in short government-exam-style sentences.
- Read the cards in random order and separate any hesitant items for review.
Important rules

- Practise recall in both directions: sound to outline and outline to full text.
- Prefer a readable full form when a contraction is uncertain.
