The EPFO Social Security Assistant (SSA) selection has two phases: a Computer-Based Test (Phase-I, which decides merit) and a Computer Skill Test / Data Entry Test (Phase-II). The skill test is qualifying only — marks are not added to merit — but you must clear it to be selected.
Speed, time and standard
You must type at 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi, which EPFO expresses as 10,500 / 9,000 key depressions per hour (5 depressions per word). The test runs for 10 minutes assessing speed and accuracy for data-entry work.
For Hindi medium, EPFO uses the Mangal font with the Inscript keyboard layout. If you plan to type in Hindi, practise that layout specifically — it differs from Remington. PwBD candidates eligible for a scribe get extended time.
How to prepare
Target 40+ WPM English in practice so 35 WPM is comfortable under pressure.
