The UP Police Computer Operator Grade A recruitment is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment & Promotion Board (UPPRPB) under Advertisement No. PRPB-3(2)/2023, with 1,352 vacancies. Selection is a written exam (160 questions, 200 marks, no negative marking) followed by a qualifying typing skill test and document verification.

You must qualify BOTH languages

This is the key point. For Computer Operator Grade A, the typing test is held separately for English and Hindi (15 minutes each), and you must appear in and qualify both. English requires 30 WPM and Hindi requires 25 WPM.

Speed, accuracy and passage

LanguageSpeedTimePassageAccuracy
English30 WPM15 min~500 words85%
Hindi25 WPM15 min~400 words85%

For reference, related UPPRPB ministerial posts differ: ASI Clerk / SI Confidential also need 30 English + 25 Hindi, while ASI Accounts needs only Hindi 15 WPM, and SI Confidential additionally needs 80 WPM Hindi stenography.

The font mandate — read this carefully

Only Mangal font on the Unicode Inscript keyboard is allowed. KrutiDev and Remington Gail are explicitly NOT allowed — the official notification bans them. If you practised Hindi for SSC CHSL on KrutiDev, that layout will not work here. Mangal/Inscript has completely different key mapping and needs separate training.

To enable Inscript on Windows: Settings → Time & Language → Language → Hindi → Options → Add keyboard → Hindi (Inscript). Switch layouts with Win + Space and practise the switch until it's muscle memory.

How the score is calculated (net WPM)

UPPRPB uses the standard government net-speed formula — the same idea SSC uses. Mistakes are deducted, then speed is computed:

Net WPM = (total words − full mistakes − half mistakes ÷ 2) ÷ time in minutes. You need the net speed AND 85% accuracy to qualify. The test is qualifying only — no marks are added to merit, but you must clear both language tests.

Interface: what to expect

The passage appears at the top of the screen and you type in a text box below; the timer starts on your first keystroke. Backspace is allowed for corrections. There is generally no live error highlighting, so practise reading the source passage rather than watching for red marks. After the test, you get a detailed analysis of mistakes, WPM and accuracy.

How to qualify

  1. Build English to 35+ WPM and Hindi to 28+ WPM so the 30/25 bars are comfortable.
  2. Hold 85%+ accuracy — spacing and capitalization slips are half-mistakes that add up.
  3. Train Hindi on Mangal/Inscript specifically — do not rely on KrutiDev.
  4. Practise full 15-minute sessions in each language so stamina holds.
  5. Confirm final rules from the official UPPRPB notification and admit-card instructions.

Use the practice tool above to rehearse the UP Police CO rules — set 15 minutes and switch between English and Hindi.
